Linux: Mounting the Ubuntu Server ISO on VirtualBox

In the last blog we've created a new virtual machine that is ready for a Ubuntu Server operating system.  Now we will install the Ubuntu Server operating system on that virtual machine. Here are the steps you need to take to install a Ubuntu Server operating system on that virtual machine.

1.  Right click the "Ubuntu Server" virtual machine, then select "Settings"

2. Click on "Storage" on the "Ubuntu Server - Settings" dialog screen

3.  In the "Storage" dialog box, you will see an option for the "Controller: IDE" option, you see the "Empty" node

4. Click on the disk icon

5. Select "Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file..."

6.  By clicking on the "Choose virtual CD/DVD disk file.." you can browse to the Ubuntu .ISO file that you've downloaded.

7 . Select the Ubuntu .ISO file that you've downloaded, select your .ISO file then click on "Open"

8.  Instead of "Empty" now the virtual disk drive in your virtual machine is mounted with the Ubuntu .ISO

9. Click "OK"

10.  The "Ubuntu - Settings" dialog screen will close, click on the "Ubuntu Server" virtual machine again, but this time click on the "Start" option

11.  You are now running the "Ubuntu" ISO as if you are running on your local Windows machine, but you are actually running it on VirtualBox, that's the magic of virtualization.

In the next blog we will go through the installation process.
